Angie Sowton (BA, PGCE, PG Dip, MBACP)

I currently work as a counsellor in schools in Bath and North East Somerset and in private practice. I have wide experience with a diverse range of children and young people aged 5-18. Over 25 years I have worked in many different roles in educational and theraputic settings. Over the past nine years I have counselled children and young people in state and private schools, being employed directly by schools as well as specific counselling organisations.

I studied on a BACP accredited course and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and therefore abide by its guidelines. 

 

I have a wide range of experience working with areas in counselling including anxiety, depression,  bereavement and loss, divorcing parents, friendship issues, school avoidance, low self esteem and trauma.

 

I work in an integrative model of counselling, which means I am trained to combine different aspects of theory to create a flexible, personalised and exploratory way of working with the children and young people in my care. I find this helps develop the most comfortable and suitable techniques for each individual child. These child led and child centred methods can include play, art, sandtray, drama, CBT and Solution Focused approaches. 

 

Mainly I hope clients in my care will experience a counsellor who will give them the space, openness, security and warmth that will encourage them to share what is going on in their world. So that together we can creatively, at the child's pace, to navigate childhood and young adulthood.
